Georgia Ports Authority has begun deploying facial recognition technology at its Garden City Terminal gates in Savannah, a move designed to speed gate processing times for truck drivers. Port officials confirmed that a trial was completed successfully and that facial recognition is now active at all inbound lanes at Gate 3, representing the first phase of a planned rollout across all terminal gates.

Enrolled drivers no longer need to present their Transportation Worker Identification Credential cards at lanes equipped with facial recognition, though port rules still require drivers to keep TWIC cards in their immediate possession while on terminal grounds. The GPA notes that facial recognition enrollment is separate from GPA Trucker App enrollment.

Drivers who want to enroll may do so at the GPA Public Safety office at 102 Main Street in Garden City, Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. A valid TWIC card is required for enrollment. The port authority has not announced a timeline for completing the full gate rollout across all Garden City Terminal gates.

Georgia Ports Authority operates the Port of Savannah's Garden City Terminal, one of the largest single-terminal container ports in the United States. The facility handles a significant volume of truck freight moving through the Southeast distribution corridor.
