Henry County has emerged as one of the strongest freight and distribution markets in metro Atlanta. The county posted the largest year over year employment gain among Georgia's twelve largest counties from March 2024 to March 2025, rising 1.4 percent, with logistics and distribution ranking among its fastest growing job categories in 2026.
Several large projects are driving the hiring. NewCold is building a 333 million dollar automated cold storage facility in the county, one of three major catalysts alongside a 215 million dollar tower expansion at Piedmont Henry and a 900 job ramp at Renewal by Andersen in Locust Grove. The cold storage plant adds high capacity warehousing to a corridor already dense with distribution centers serving the Southeast.
State transportation spending reinforces the trend. The amended fiscal year 2026 budget signed by Governor Brian Kemp in March directs more than 1.6 billion dollars toward extending and adding bidirectional capacity to the Interstate 75 express lanes in Henry County, a project aimed at easing truck and commuter congestion on one of the region's busiest freight arteries.
The activity fits a broader pattern across Georgia, where the Department of Transportation projects that freight movement will nearly double over the next quarter century. Industry leaders have pointed to the county's interstate access, land availability, and proximity to the Port of Savannah inland network as reasons distribution operators continue to expand there.
