Georgia's freight and logistics sector is expanding across metro Atlanta, with new infrastructure investments targeting Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Gwinnett, and Henry counties. The region's concentration of distribution operations, including UPS headquarters, Amazon fulfillment centers, and Walmart distribution facilities, generates substantial last-mile fleet demand throughout the northern suburbs.

State spending reflects that growth. The amended fiscal year 2026 budget signed by Governor Brian Kemp on March 3, 2026, directs more than $1.6 billion toward extending and adding bidirectional capacity to the I-75 express lanes in Henry County. The budget also allocates $185 million for interchange conversions on State Route 316, $100 million for rural bridge work, and $250 million in local maintenance and improvement grants.

Beyond metro Atlanta, the Georgia Department of Transportation plans to open the $126 million Brampton Road Connector in August 2026, a four-lane highway linking the Port of Savannah's Garden City Terminal to the interstate system. A separate inland port, the Blue Ridge Connector in Gainesville, will tie the Port of Savannah to northeast Georgia through dedicated Norfolk Southern rail service with annual capacity of 200,000 containers.

The investments respond to projected long-term demand. State analysts forecast that freight moved by truck in Georgia will rise 67% by weight and 96% by value by 2050. For fleet operators based in the metro counties, the express lane expansion and improved port connectivity are expected to influence routing, capacity planning, and delivery times across the Atlanta market.
