Behnke Dedicated and Logistics, a fourth-generation family-owned third-party logistics provider based in Battle Creek, Michigan, has acquired AG Freight of Piedmont, South Carolina. Mergers and acquisitions firm Calder Capital announced the transaction and did not disclose terms.
The two companies executed a letter of intent in March and closed the deal on June 24, according to a Calder Capital spokesperson. AG Freight provides truckload, less-than-truckload, drayage, and expedited transportation along with brokerage services. Drayage is a new capability for Behnke.
Chief Executive Ben Behnke said the purchase gives the company a foothold in the Southeast and opens access to the Greenville manufacturing market and Inland Port Greer. Behnke said his Michigan fleet is approaching 70 power units. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration records filed under USDOT number 3542939 listed AG Freight with 30 power units and 30 drivers as of March 31.
Garrett Boulware founded AG Freight during the COVID-19 pandemic and grew the carrier over several years before deciding to exit and pursue other interests. Calder Capital advisor Patrick Robey, who worked the transaction, said the deal required patience and trust from both sides.
Inland Port Greer recently completed a 55 million dollar expansion that allows the facility to handle 300,000 rail lifts a year and to meet projected demand through 2040, according to the South Carolina Ports Authority. A PMCF Investment Banking quarterly recap counted 28 closed transportation and logistics transactions in the second quarter of 2026, matching the same quarter a year earlier, with strategic buyers the most active group.
