Motive Technologies, a San Francisco-based fleet management software company, launched a product called Agents on October 19. The autonomous AI tools are designed to anticipate fleet problems and act on them directly, which shifts tasks such as chasing alerts and verifying fixes from staff to software.
Motive's 2026 ROI Report found that 42% of its customers cite administrative work as a major source of operational inefficiency. The company estimates that fleet operators lose about $46 billion a year to preventable issues such as unplanned vehicle downtime, unproductive engine idling and compliance violations. Chief Product Officer Hemant Banavar said the data that prevents collisions and breakdowns already sits in Motive's platform and that Agents put it to work at the moment it matters.
The launch covers three areas. On safety, an Agent that detects early signs of driver fatigue alerts Atlas, the company's in-vehicle assistant, which tells the driver to take a break and points to the nearest safe place to park. On maintenance, Agents monitor each vehicle for signs of wear, then create a work order and mark the vehicle out of service during repairs, based on trigger conditions the customer sets. On idling, Agents flag excessive engine run time and prompt the driver through AI Dashcam Plus to shut the engine down, while accounting for ambient temperature so drivers who run the engine for heating or cooling are left alone.
Existing Motive customers can deploy Agents starting October 19 through a guided workflow and ready-made templates. Early next year, Motive plans to let teams build custom Agents by describing a task in plain language.
