Federal and state inspectors carried out a fresh round of commercial vehicle enforcement operations across multiple states in late July and early August, placing dozens of truck drivers and vehicles out of service for safety violations. Agencies in Arizona, Nebraska and New York, along with counterparts in Canada, combined for hundreds of citations tied to equipment failures, licensing lapses and improperly secured cargo.
In Arizona, a two-day detail along Interstate 10 between Tucson and Benson produced 67 commercial vehicle inspections and 280 driver and vehicle violations, with 20 drivers and 15 vehicles sidelined. Officers also cited three wide loads operating without permits and issued dozens of seat belt and cellphone citations.
Nebraska troopers ran two separate operations that together placed 10 drivers and 19 vehicles out of service. A checkpoint in Platte County uncovered 151 violations among 35 inspected trucks, while a second stop in Douglas County found 50 violations across 32 full inspections.
New York State Police focused on toll evasion and bridge strikes, inspecting dozens of trucks at the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge and running a separate campaign aimed at commercial vehicles that clip overpasses. Long Island inspectors documented 118 non-out-of-service violations tied to equipment, permits and registration.
North of the border, British Columbia inspectors sidelined nearly half the trucks checked during a targeted operation in Delta, citing distracted driving, defective brakes and an insecure load. A separate Saskatchewan stop found a truck hauling nearly 53,000 pounds of corrosive liquid without proper certification or placarding.
Regulators say the pattern reflects sustained scrutiny of driver qualifications, vehicle maintenance and cargo securement rather than a single isolated sweep.
