A newly formed holding company has been built around Alabama Motor Express and is now pursuing acquisitions across truckload carriers, brokerages, dedicated fleets, warehousing operators and logistics providers. RTB Holdings was organized with backing from Atlanta investment firm M&T Capital Partners, and it enters the market with an operating base of more than 500 tractors already running under the Alabama Motor Express banner.

The company has completed its first purchase. RTB acquired JIT-Ex, a Memphis based truckload carrier that also operates a terminal in Nashville. That deal gives the group additional coverage through the Tennessee freight corridors that connect the Gulf Coast to the Midwest, and it signals the geographic pattern the buyer intends to follow as it adds companies.

Executives described a strategy centered on assembling both asset based capacity and non asset logistics capability under one ownership structure. Asset based trucking supplies the equipment and drivers. Brokerage and warehousing supply the flexibility that shippers increasingly request when volumes swing between seasons. Combining the two inside a single holding company allows the group to bid on freight it could not serve with tractors alone.

The formation arrives during a period of consolidation in the trucking sector. Smaller carriers have faced margin pressure from soft contract pricing, elevated insurance costs and equipment expenses, and several have looked for buyers rather than continue independently. Private capital groups have moved into that gap, purchasing regional fleets and consolidating back office functions.

Alabama Motor Express operates primarily in the Southeast, with freight lanes running through Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and neighboring states. The company said additional acquisitions are planned as the platform expands.
