The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a batch of commercial vehicle recalls in early August covering five manufacturers, with defects ranging from brake system failures to headlight software errors.
Autocar is recalling 137 ACTT terminal tractors built between 2023 and 2027 because the antilock braking system's electronic control unit may not be properly secured. If the unit separates and becomes damaged, the ABS system can fail and raise the risk of a crash. Autocar plans to replace the mounting fasteners at no cost, with notification letters expected by September 25.
Paccar is recalling 5,919 model year 2027 Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks because oil may contaminate the power distribution center box, which can knock out drive power, ABS function, exterior lighting, windshield wipers, or the defogging system. Dealers will inspect and replace affected boxes as needed.
Daimler Truck North America is recalling more than 23,000 Freightliner Business Class M2, eM2, and Custom Chassis S2C and S2RV vehicles built for 2026 and 2027 because a software error can cause the low beam headlights to illuminate improperly, reducing visibility. A fix is still under development.
Heil is recalling seven side loader garbage trucks equipped with certain high voltage cabinets after finding water could enter an improperly sealed enclosure and cause a short circuit or unexpected shutdown. Ford separately recalled more than 47,000 F-150 and F-250 Super Duty trucks over a software glitch that can obscure the rearview camera image.
Fleet operators can check vehicle status through the NHTSA Safety Hotline or nhtsa.gov as manufacturers begin mailing owner notifications this fall.
