Transportation Equipment Network, a trailer leasing and rental company based in Dublin, Ohio, is adding 3,000 dry van trailers to its fleet as the industry braces for an early and unusually tight peak shipping season. The addition brings the company's total trailer fleet to 85,000 units.
The new 2027-model trailers include updated telematics and trailer sensors and will be available for short-term rental or long-term lease across the United States and Canada starting next month. TEN offers dry van, refrigerated, heated, flatbed, chassis and storage equipment on a first-come, first-served basis with no regional restrictions.
Demand for new trailers has surged this year. July orders for new trailers nearly doubled compared with the same month last year, according to ACT Research. Retailers have also pulled holiday inventory imports forward by four to six weeks to get ahead of tariff uncertainty, meaning freight that typically moves later in the fall is already building in warehouses.
The trailer manufacturing industry's backlog-to-build ratio has climbed to five months, ACT Research found, meaning trailers ordered today are unlikely to arrive before the second quarter of 2027.
TEN Chief Operating Officer Ari Silkey said the company secured the new trailers to meet unusually high anticipated demand during the fourth quarter, so customers are not left scrambling for equipment. Adis Danan, founder of JoyRide Logistics, said capacity is tightening across the industry and that having a large equipment provider able to supply extra trailers on short notice can determine whether a broker takes on a load or turns it down.
